Our plan is to row in shifts of 2 hours on 2 hours off, non-stop, every day & night, from start to finish. Our routine will burn more than 8,000 calories each day – more than three times the normal average for an active male. To provide us with the calories we need the basis of our diet will be high calorie freeze dried meals. We will also take a mix of snacks – such as chocolate, nuts and biscuits – to provide us with an energy boost between meals. We will take enough food for 80 days.
We'll drink more than 10 litres of water a day each. To quench our thirst the boat is equipped with its own desalinator which is able to turn seawater into drinking water. This is a vital piece of equipment. Previous ocean rowers have had the misfortune of their water maker breaking down bringing an early end to their race. We will carry a spare, hand powered, water maker to avoid the risk of a premature end to our own race fortunes. |
