Physical training includes a combination long-distance rowing, running and cycling; building up the strength of our core muscles; and weights training sessions. We are also training in our boat on Cardiff Bay, and along the Welsh and English coast, giving us the opportunity to become familiar with the boat and how she performs, and, to test our equipment. Our training will prepare us for shifts of rowing 2 hours on 2 hours off, non-stop, every day & night, from start to finish. The current pairs record for this route is 49 days 19 hours 8 minutes and we aim to beat this but, depending on so many factors – particularly the weather – it could take much longer. We will also complete courses in sea survival, first aid at sea and how to use our VHF radio as well as sit the Royal Yachting Association's Ocean Yachtmaster Theory examination teaching us how to navigate. |
